With an opportunity to tie into Social Studies, Vote for Books is a great way for students to learn about the voting process. This is also a great activity to collaborate with other classes. After students read numerous books, they write down their five favorite books. When each student does this, there is a long list of books, creating a "ballot." Either being written on the board or by making a sheet of paper, the students are told to vote for their three favorite books on the ballot. The top three books (candidates) will be decided. To choose people to represent all three books, the teacher will need to choose a method to pick students (ones who originally wrote the books down as a favorite), and each of these students will formulate a "platform" to convince the rest of the class that their book should win the election. After the platforms are presented, the class votes again, and the winner of the election is the book that all students must read in the collaborating class.
